Engineered by Nature – Diving Deeper into Tech Diving Fins
You don’t have to be a technical diver to dive tech diving fins, but there IS a reason why many scuba divers, technical and otherwise, have a classic vented fin in their dive kit.
These tech diving fins are a more rugged fin with short vented blades that are preferred by many divers for their efficiency and reliability. They work well with frog kicks and have minimal snag points which is especially important if you are penetrating wrecks and caves.
Additionally, tech fins work well with a drysuit; the big open heel foot pocket fits your drysuit boot well whilst the spring heel straps are quick and easy to don and doff even with thick gloves.
So what makes our Tech Fins different from any others?
Efficiency
When you want to glide or manoeuvre through the water with minimal effort, it’s best to look at what evolution has selected as the best traits, which during our product development, brought us very nicely to the humpback whale. These elegant mammals have large nodules on the leading edge of their pectoral fins which disrupts the water as they move through it. The resulting turbulence enables them to swim with more efficiency.
We adapted this concept for our Tech Fins. The turbulence disrupters on the top of the blade work in the same way as the nodules on the whale fin, enabling movement through the water with optimal efficiency and minimal effort.
100% Natural Rubber Tech Diving Fins
Our Tech Fins are made using 100% natural rubber, so they are extremely durable, and all components are recyclable at end of life.
Most fins are made using a process of injection moulding. The liquid material is (and engineers please look away now) squirted into the mould then cooled until solid before being removed. The result is a fin where the density of the material is uniform throughout.
The Fourth Element Tech Fins are made using compression moulding. This allows for different areas of the fin to have a different density. As a result, the rails and stiffening ribs have a high level of firmness and structure, and the blade material, whilst strong, gives more flexibility and movement.
Similarly with the foot pocket, the base of the pocket is high density rubber whilst the top of the pocket is extremely soft and malleable without losing its strength, making for a more comfortable dive and less wear and tear on your dive boots.

Shape
When compared to other tech diving fins, our Tech Fins are unique in their shape. There is a wider blade which gives manoeuvrability, especially for back finning and helicopter kicks, without compromising the power which is there when needed, while the shorter length improves agility and makes stowing the fins for transport more convenient.
The Tech Fins were developed with technical divers in mind with a slightly negative buoyancy characteristic but are suitable for all levels of diver looking for a high-performance rubber fin.
