Head of Product Design

We are looking for a Head of Design to be a strategic partner to the Directors and responsible for the management of the product design team, executing product from concept to commercialisation, in alignment with a consistent brand vision, performance and aesthetic.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a senior design role, with a focus on technical innovation and creative direction. They will have experience of managing a team where all members contribute to creating high quality products that provide exceptional performance. The Head of Product Design will need to share the company’s ambitions of sustainability and passion for the marine environment.

Key Responsibilities & Skills

The Head of Design will:

  • Execute a strong, innovative and environmentally friendly vision for Fourth Element, aligned with the company’s product and brand strategy.
  • Create and maintain a consistent vision of Fourth Element by overseeing creative output of the Product Team ensuring it aligns completely with brand values and to create industry leading products.
  • Take responsibility for the standard of creative output across the Product Design and Development team.
  • Work with Buying to develop product ranges within the company financial forecast.
  • Lead creative sessions for product briefings.
  • Evaluate the latest innovation in the water sports industry and beyond.
  • Ensure product briefs are adhered to and manage multiple projects from concept through to completion.
  • Develop and manage productivity and continuously improve the Design Teams development capabilities.
  • Be capable of thriving in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, while always maintaining a sharp attention to detail.
  • Work with the Directors on collaborations with external clients, pitching designs and understanding clients’ needs.
  • Ensure design and creative products are delivered on time
  • Lead fit sessions with Senior Garment Tech
  • Provide quality control over design outputs and production
  • Be responsible for communicating the creative message, linking Design to Marketing and Sales, presenting the products to the wider teams.
  • Have an in depth knowledge of technical fabrics and innovative developments occurring in the outdoor sporting goods industry.
  • The ability to problem solve and find creative solutions to specific product briefs
  • Have strong communication skill, being able to build strong relationships with colleagues and suppliers.
  • Enjoy developing and mentoring others through strong yet sensitive leadership.
  • Have a passion for scuba diving and/or water sports and experience of developing water sports products.
Job Type:

Full-time, Permanent

Salary:

from £43,000.00 per annum

This role will be based in our head office in Helston, Cornwall.

Schedule:

Monday to Friday with occasional weekends for attending shows.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent industry qualifications/experience

Experience:

At least 2 years experience in a senior design role.
Experience of working with technical fabrics.
Water-sports and / or diving product experience is an advantage.
