What Do I Pack for a Dive Holiday?
Packing for a dive holiday can feel a bit daunting, especially if it’s for a country you haven’t dived before. Add to this the fun of packing for all conditions, remembering those vital pieces of dive gear and ensuring your luggage doesn’t exceed the weight limit, and packing for a dive holiday can become pretty stressful!
Don’t worry! We are here to make your life easy with our comprehensive guide for what to take on your dive holiday!
Swimwear
Start with the basics – swimwear that allows for ease of movement underwater and feels really comfortable beneath a wetsuit. Opt for durable materials that can withstand the wear and tear of saltwater and sun exposure. Consider packing a few extra sets, especially if you plan on diving multiple times a day or want to switch up your look for beachside lounging. There’s no such thing as too many bikinis or pairs of board shorts!

Divewear
A dive holiday is not a dive holiday without diving! Check the sea temperature before you go, so you can take a wetsuit that’s going to give you enough thermal protection. Remember that the deeper you dive, the more thermal protection you will need. Likewise, you will always feel a little colder on consecutive dives, so if you are planning 3 dives a day plus a night dive, bring a wetsuit that will keep you warm on those final dives, or bring divewear to layer up. Neoprene vests are useful to add for the final dives, or check out our Thermocline range, which offers 2mm protection but with plenty of layering up possibilities – thermocline dries quickly and is easy to pack too!
Dive Gear
If you are spending your entire holiday diving, it’s tempting to try and take all of your dive kit, especially if you’ve got the set-up JUST RIGHT for what you like! Sadly luggage allowances (or the apparent need for those 25 t-shirts!) often means you’ll have to hire some kit out there, but you CAN bring those things that are most personal or most important. We recommend ditching a few t-shirts and packing your regs, your dive computer and your mask & snorkel – if you can fit fins in as well, then happy days!
Dry Bag
Dive boats normally have boxes or baskets for all your kit, but nothing ruins a perfectly good dive holiday like discovering that your phone, wallet, and spare pair of socks are sitting in a puddle at the bottom of your dive bag. Don’t let a little thing like water ruin your holiday vibes. Invest in a trusty dry bag to keep your essentials safe and dry, whether you’re navigating choppy seas, hopping from boat to land, or just trying to avoid a sandy smartphone situation on the beach.
Sun Protection
Protecting your skin from the sun’s harsh rays is crucial, both above and below the surface. Packing for a dive trip should include reef-safe sunscreen with broad-spectrum protection and a minimum SPF of 30 for your face and hands, and a rashguard for your body. We offer a loose-fit and a classic-fit Hydro-T, so you can make sure you’re covered in the shallows and on land. Don’t forget lip balm with SPF and a wide-brimmed hat or a cap to shield your face from direct sunlight during surface intervals.
Underwater Camera
Capture the magic of your underwater dive holiday with a waterproof camera or action cam. Choose a camera with a sturdy housing and intuitive controls, allowing you to focus on framing the perfect shot rather than fumbling with complicated settings. Remember to pack spare memory cards and batteries to avoid missing out on memorable moments.
Rain and Wind Protection
Enter the fourth element Shoreline travel poncho – an innovative solution for staying protected from the elements without sacrificing movement or style. Made from 100% recycled materials, this lightweight poncho offers reliable waterproof and windproof protection, making it ideal for sudden weather changes, tropical storms or chilly boat rides. Its minimalist design and adjustable hood ensure versatility, while the compact size allows for easy storage when not in use. Just be prepared for jealous glances from your less-prepared dive buddies.
Patience
The final tip for your dive holiday is to pack a healthy dose of patience – a valuable asset for navigating the unpredictable nature of travel and diving. From flight delays to equipment malfunctions, unforeseen challenges are bound to arise, but maintaining a positive attitude and adaptability will ensure a smoother and more enjoyable experience for yourself and your dive buddies.
And don’t forget your passport!
